Yama Siphon Brewer
The siphon is a method that is growing in poularity in the specialty coffee community, though the development of this method is far from recent. The earliest versions of the vacuum pot were found in Germany in the 1830s. While coffee was beginning to popularize, brewing methods were still minimal before this time. As all aspects of the coffee industry have been fine tuned and developed over the past century, so has the siphon. The development of heat-resistant glass, more dependable heat sources from electric stove-top, to butane burner and the most recent development – halogen bulb heater, have helped to perfect the brewing process. We expect to see this method more and more as single cup brewing becomes more popular. The method is already commonly used large scale in Japan.
The mouthfeel of the siphon-brewed coffee is extremely slick and smooth. The coffee produced is very clean and clear. It is a truly unique brewing method. Check our “brewing & equipment” blog section for step by step directions for siphon brewing.
